About Us
Named after the alluring, jewel like qualities of a cat’s eye, James Churcher founded CatsEye jewellery in 2017. Born out of a love for the charm, character and beauty of antique and vintage items, James has made it his mission to spread this passion and to demonstrate that Antique and vintage jewellery need not be reserved for a select few. The items at CatsEye jewellery have been curated with this in mind and demonstrate that antique and vintage jewellery can be accessible, affordable and beautiful. This has been further developed in his very own CatsEye Collection.
James studied Art & Design at university in London and then went on to be a singer songwriter before finding himself working at a gemstone merchants in London’s famous jewellery quarter ‘Hatton Garden’ During his eight years there he learned how to identify, test, trade & value both precious and semi precious stones. A large part of the job there was the sourcing of replacement gems for antique and vintage jewellery. This constant contact with a wide ranging spectrum of jewellery fired his passion for antiques & trained his eye to identify antique and vintage pieces including Art Deco, Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian items.
It wasn’t until James started his own hunt for an antique engagement ring that his passion for jewellery went to the next level. The hunt for the perfect piece was intoxicating. Searching markets, dealers and auctions for the elusive ring was addictive and although the search was at times slightly archaic he had well and truly been bitten by the treasure hunting bug.
During this time james received several requests from friends, family and members of the public asking if he could help with their search for antique jewellery, their enquires would usually all start with the same question “I want an antique ring but I don’t know where to start” using his freshly acquired knowledge and passion on the subject James decided to start CatsEye Jewellery with the aim of using a dynamic and transparent approach to help demystify the process of purchasing antique jewellery whilst providing outstanding quality and care.
